Our New Puppy

Let the shopping begin!

My first set of purchases for this new little guy were ones that I hope will be helpful in raising him, but will also last for any future puppies. The first big purchase was a dog crate. I had a lot of choices and went with the midwest lifestages dog crate - it came with a divider so as the puppy grows we can begin to give him more room. Too much room can cause house training problems.

The second thing I got was a doorbell to teach him how to ring a bell to go potty. I searched around and found a site that sells some really cute ones that looked quite durable. When it gets here I can write more about it.

The last thing I bought was a nail file. Puppy nails are very sharp and with two young kids, I know I dont want them getting hurt. Clipping them leaves a rough edge so using a nail file can round and smooth them out. I plan to do a lot of nail desensitization early work to get the little guy used to being handled. More on that as the weeks progress. Just a few weeks until he makes his entrance into our home!
