My dog will not heel or even walk close to me during walks. He tries to claw ahead and jump on anyhbody who walks by. He is a 6-month lab and pretty well trained aside from this. I have tried simply walking with a short leash making him choke himself if he pulls too hard - but that has not worked at all. Anybody have any advice on how to teach my dog to walk beside me?

You have to TEACH him what TO do. Bring a bag of hotdogs. When he pulls, stop, When he stops and looks at you say YAY and give a treat. Then walk again. If he is not pulling, you have to reinforce that with food. If he is pulling you HAVE to stop. Get an Easy walk harness to help you control him. Also, if you haven't taken an obedience class NOW is the time!
