We have 3 dogs, 1, 5 yr siberian husky, 1, 2 yr norwegian elk hound, and 1, 1 1/2 yr norwegian elk hound. We live on a farm out in the country and the dogs have approx 2-3 acres of yard and woods bordered by an underground fence, so they have plenty of room to explore and exercise. We also exercise with them daily whether it be fetch, running and chasing and some harmless roughhousing. They do know their role in our pack. However they do have a dstructive side to them when we are not home or when we go to bed. They have chewed on everthing from packages delivered to the house to flower pots to vehicles. They have scratched the side of 2 trucks trying to get in the bed to get at whatever was in there, and being on a farm it could anything from fencing and tools, saddles and cow and horse feed. We have never caught them in the act so disipline actions are not going to do alot of good. They have been shown what they have done and scolded for it but it hasn't changed anything. I am at a loss as to what to do. My husband is at his ropes end and being raised on a farm where animals are either some form of income or food, if they don't produce you get rid of them. This would devistate our 4 kids and me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Akely

Have you considered using a crate or kennel?

I don't think crating or a kennel can work because we live in the country and there are various wild animals around that the dogs need to be able to protect themselves from or be able to get away from and I have tried with the siberian with no luck, if he is enclosed in any way he will find a way out even if it hurts him. I need a way to teach them not to chew whats not theirs.
