3 things you could do...
1) When your dog bites something he/she is not suppose to yell "Ah Ah" sharply, not so loud that your dog is super duper scared. Just a sharp "Ah" followed by describing to him the behaviour which is wrong "Rex, No bite!" follow immediately by " Bite this..." provide an immediate object to bite (i.e.chew toy) when your dog bites the chew toy follow it up by "good Rex!" I also would give an additional treat if he or she is playing with the toy on his or her own.
2) Booby Trap the object or rattle a can full of coins- but never let your dog see you shaking the can. The dog will associate the "disturbing" sound with the biting of the couch ect.
3) Try bitter sprays- Sour apple spray is great! You can purchase this at any store, the good side is that it works! The bad side is that it is alcohol based so it has to be reapplied often because it evapourates quickly...and some dogs like the taste.
All in all try to nip the behaviour in the bud. Provide a area your dog can go to to get his/her toys freely. Our dog was not that much of a chewer or furnishings ect. but she figured out pretty fast where her toys where and what she could and can't chew on.
Hope this helps. |
