Hi:
About a month ago, I purchased a yorki that was born on August 31st. It is my first dog. Because of mosquito issues and the associated West Nile Virus in my area, I have decided to crate train the dog and have him eliminate inside the house on "Wi Wi pads". I had planned on taking him to the pads every hour or so to get him to eliminate and then reward him with a treat. When I am unable to supervise the dog, I would have him in the crate When I first brought him home from the store (which housed him in a crate full-time), he seemed to be able to not eliminate for hours at a time.
The problem I am now having is that he will eliminate in his crate and seems to prefer to do so. I do not have excessive room in his crate so that is not an issue. He will eliminate (both ways)in his cage without barking or giving any signs whatsoever. He literally will now liquid eliminate every half hour or so during the day.I am completely at a loss and have no idea what to do. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, as I know giving him a bath everyday will only damage his skin. |

It sounds to me like this is a 3 month old puppy then? Its a little young to be expecting house training to be done. You will have ups and downs. If you are training on the wee wee pads, then maybe put those in a larger pen or crate. Or even try the wizdog litter system - it is a great thing for small dogs who are indoor trained. At least that way the dog isn't IN the mess. Hopefully over time, this will pass, but my advice is treat her as if she isn't house broken, take her out often. I wouldn't expect more than 30 minutes at a time for her to hold it as she is a little dog.
