Obsessed with garbage can...

Hello,

I have a 7-month old Miniature Schnauzer, who for the most part is a great and quite obedient puppy. I take him to work with me and for the past 5 months he's been closed in my office with me but ideally I'd love for him to be able to roam around. The problem is, everytime I give him a little freedom to do so, he heads straight to the bathroom garbage can and shreds paper towels in the hallway. I can't seem to make him understand that this is a bad behavior - it almost seems like he knows but he finds it really fun even if he knows he's going to get in trouble for it. Any suggestions?

Pick up the trashcan or get the kind with the lid.

This is a self rewarding behavior which means he is getting a lot of fun out of doing it regardless of if its wrong. By preventing him from doing it you will break the habit and hopefully he will outgrow it over time.
