Hello again:
I have another question regarding my Yorkie's 'eliminating' habits. Again, the dog was born on 8/31/05 and I purchased him from a store that keeps the dog in crates.
Anyway, the issue I am having is that this dog will not bark when he has to go #2. You can literally be sitting next to him while he's in his crate, and he will not make a sound. He will go #2 right in his crate which I have at a very small size as recommended. What makes matters worse is that after he eliminates, he then gets the fecal matter on him and still does not bark. Even my vet is amazed at this, seeing how dogs supposedly do not like to be in their own fecal matter.
I've literally had to give him a bath 4 times this week, which i know is not good for his skin.
Any observations or comments or corrective suggestions??? This odd behavior has me quite concerned.
Thank you. |

House training a dog like this is EXTREEMLY difficult. They lose that innate need to stay away from their feces. The best advice I can offer you is to continue rewarding him for going outside, keep him on a schedule, and try feeding him in his crate. I dont know that it will help any, but its worth a shot. Finally I will stick to I think it might be smart to put your dog ina pen and try to train the dog in a litter box or wizdog box. At least then it wouldn't be ON the dog. It could be a good starting point to train him to go on something like that. Then at least it can be in the pen / crate with him.
Best of luck and keep us posted.
