| We just bought an 8month old chow mix from the humain society, they told us that she was already potty trained, but she in not. She has marked her spot in the dining room and will not go anywhere else. We take her out all the time only to find her mess on the run 5 minutes after coming back in. She does not give ANY sign of wanting or needing to go outside, however, once she has gone in the house, she runs and hides. We think she knows that she is wrong for doing it. But she just will not go outside. She also will not give us any sign of wanting/needing to go out. |

Hi Savannah!
I KNOW your frustrations...I had the same problem with my 4 month old Pom-Maltese cross. I think the best way I dealt with it was paper training him...as I do live in a condo, I found it a lot easier putting him in his kennel (which is in my solarium) and in the middle of the night he knows the pee on the newspaper. I've also enclosed a small area of the living room(connected to the solarium)for him when I'm home. This way he has access to the newspaper if be needed as well, he won't use my entire flat as a toilet.
I heard rule of thumb was their age in months + 1 = how long he can hold his pee in hours...therefore your Chow should be able to hold it for 9 hrs?
Hope this is helpful...How are things going now? |
