Hi. I have a seven week old Border Terrier, who is lovely. AT times when he is playing he tends to get over agressive in the biting sense.(could be over excited) He growls and pulls at anything you have on, be it your shoes, laces, jumper etc. I say NO in a growling voice to let him know I mean business but he doesnt let go. I have to prize him away, telling him NO NO, I have put him in his crate at times as he has been really bad at it. I try and get him to bite a toy and have sqeeked a ball to distract him but this doesnt always work.
He also sleeps a lot, I play with him all the time and he comes to work with me so he is never alone and has exercise in the garden as he isnt aloud out yet so maybe I wear him out. Is this all normal behaviour. Thanks for your help. _________________ CELTIC THANKS YOU FOR YOUR ADVISE |

Yes, this is very normal behavior. He is playing with you as if you were another dog. If he gets out of control, just put him in the crate or redirect him with an appropriate toy.

I do put him in his crate when he is doing it really badly. But when he has hold of my clothes etc he WILL NOT let go, no matter what we do and Im scared that his teeth will come out. How long should I put him in his crate for? and will him associate that with his behaviour? _________________ CELTIC THANKS YOU FOR YOUR ADVISE |

Make going into the crate a happy thing.
To get a dog off you who wont let go, stick your thumb in the back of their mouth and push down - they will open it. When you do puppy kindergarten they should teach you leave it - that would come in handy.
