This is another post about "Chipper"---the drooling dog. (He is almost weaned off of the Prednisone. He should be able to leave it completely alone by the end of this month. He is returning to normal.)
This question regards getting Chipper to want to swim with the kids for fun and exercise. We have a pool in our backyard. When we had Chipper for about a week,(4 months old) he was playing with my son in the backyard and accidentally backed up into the pool. He swam fine, but it traumatized him as it was January and the water was pretty cold. Since then, he has accidentally fallen in a couple of other times, and again, he swims fine, he just can't seem to get himself out of the pool. We've tried to steer him to the steps so he can see that there is an easy way to get out, but, he doesn't seem to get it. We've tried to coax him into the water gradually, but he balks. (By the way, he is never left outside in the backyard unattended, so there is little chance of him falling into the pool unnoticed.)
The kids would love to have their four-legged buddy swim with them in the warm weather. Any suggestions? |
