| My puppy is a 7 month old Doberman. I have had him for 1 month. He is a great dog, very intelligent and eager to please, except for one thing. He nervous pees whenever I put his collar on or remove it. I ask him to sit and he does. I tell him Good Boy. But once I start to put on or take off the collar, he pees. Once he has peed he licks himeself and looks at me. At first I reprimanded him for peeing. I said 'bad dog, no pee' and put him into his cage. I don't know if he began to associate collar stuff with a reprimand. Then I tried to get him to sit on a tarpoulin so the cleanup would be easier. That just stressed him out more. The collar is not tight. It is a regular collar, not a shock or chain collar. Putting the collar off and on outside is not an option. For the last 3 weeks I have not reprimanded him. Now I just pretend it didn't happen and get him out of the room and clean up the mess. I thought he would get comfortable and stop peeing. He still pees. I am getting tired of this. He is a great dog, other than this atrocious habit. I want to keep him but not if he cannot stop this peeing. Any help totally appreciated. |

Teach him how to "get dressed". Hold the collar, with one hand and a treat with the other. When he puts his nose through the collar, give him the treat - if he backs out thats OK. Just keep practiccing it over and over until he gets it - collar on, reward happens.
