Any advice appreciated here. My 8 week old puppy who I just brought home is waking 3 times during the night to go out. In his old home ( w/mom & littermates) he went to bed at 10pm and woke at 1:30 & 5am to relieve himself. In his new home, w/me, he goes to sleep closer to 9pm & wakes at 12:00, 3am & 5:30am. He is sleeping happily in his crate & cries when he wakes for me to let him out. I am not having his crate in my bedroom ( hubby refuses ) thus, he is alone in my den. I can respond within 1-2 minutes from his 1st cries. Once he goes potty - I put him right back to the crate - he whines for a few minutes( 5-10 & shortening each night), but settles back to sleep quickly after.
Am I creating my own problem by rushing to him when he cries? Do I ignore the 3am waking to get him to hold it longer?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bogies Mommy |

Try taking a different approach - put on the alarm clock at 2:45. Take him out, put him back. Each night, increase the time somewhat. The goal is to ignore the crying - if you reinforce it by letting him out then it will become a habit. This way you dont have to face that problem
