| I would put him on leash or in a crate if you can't watch him. Chewing is often a sign of stress or boredom. Try to give your dog a stuffed kong or something to do instead of chew on your couch. |

My opinon, Have you got a room, or can you make a room, totally dog proof! with nothing much in it?.. if so Everytime he does it.. Put him in there for a short while (half an hour).. do it everytime!.. he will get the idea! (everytime I chew something I should'nt! I end up in this boring place and I'm being ignored)...
Try going to the pet store, and buying him the biggest dog chew you can find! he will be so ingroced in that!.. sit on the floor while he is chewing that, stroke him and tell him what a good boy he is!.. Dogs love to please you.. !!
Lots of love and good luck, I always say, worst things happen at sea!.. don't be to stressed, don't leave anything close to your heart in reach
