Our dog Rocky has been with us for over 7 years. His buddy passed away (my mother in law's dog) a year ago. He was lonely so we decided to get another dog for him to play with. He has had trouble excepting her. He growls and snarls at her and just won't play with her. He played once at my mother in laws house. Is growling or snarling acceptable behavior? How long will this take for him to accept her. She is 11 weeks old and we have had her for 3 weeks.

Any advise would be appreciated.

This isn't uncommon. He is establishing the puppies place in the house. Watch it that it doesn't escalate. Help enforce his wanting to be left alone. As long as he isn't hurting the pup or going after him, I say let them work it out. If it is becoming a problem, you may want to consult with someone on how to best fix it.

We just adopted (this past saturday) an 11 months old pommie/long hair chi mix. We already have a 3yr old pommie mix too. The 3 yr old is somehow tolerating the 11 months old but isnt playing and they both gnarl and bark at eachothers.
How long before one dog accepts the other?
How do you tell weather or not they will get along?

Do you side with the first dog or scold her ....what can we do?
Our situation isnt as long as the previous dog owner so how long one should wait until it escalates?

No dont wait for this to escalate. You can't allow this to happen. You need to keep them separated, gain good obedience control over both (off leash) and work on learning how to read their body language. I would keep the more aggressive one on leash to start. A good trainer would be able to come in and teach you some methods for managing them in the same house. Meanwhile you will want to walk them together and do lots of fun things where they wont fight, but can learn to accept each other better.

The more agressive one is the 3 yr old the one we had first. The 11 months old is trying his best to get her attention, to play with her but she wants nothing to do with it. They confront eachother by barking and gnarling.

They are both inside dogs...so how do I keep the 3 yr old ona leash inside???
Ive noticed that she doesnt like it when we give him attention...she wants to either prevent it or avoid it from happening.

Its a weird situation b/c they can lay next to eachother, be on my lap together but If one of us (humans) starts giving attention to the 11 months old ...the 3 yr old gets in between.

The 3 yr old can get possessive with his bones or toys.....I think she does it just to get at him. lol

Help!!!!!
