12 year old terrier constantly barks in kennel

Hello:

I have had my terrier since she was a puppy and have kennel trained her but she has never gotten over being kenneled. She constantly barks until she tires out and will mess her cage as well.

I have tried everything other then medication. She is taken out frequently she has other dogs in house to socialize with and still the behavior continues the minute I kennel her. I cannot trust her loose in the house because she will pee when she gets excited.

I have had many sleepless lights over the years and have had her investigated for bladder problems at the vet but they say she is fine. I don' know what else to do. My other dogs don't behave like this and I trained them the same way.

Some dogs have more severe separation anxiety than others. I would try having the crate in an area with people. You could also try a dap diffuser.

Finally - sometimes changing the crate can help. Maybe using a more open one, or if you are using an open one, more of an airline style crate. That may help.

If a dog is honestly anxious and very stressed, it might be helpful to discuss medication with your vet. It has helped many dogs, and owners!
