Yellow Brick Dogs
I specialize in teaching clients to use clicker training to achieve whatever goals they have for their dog, whether that is to be a future OTCh or just be a happy and well-mannered companion. The teaching methods used are based in positive reinforcement. This means you will be using a conditioned reinforcer along with food, toys, games, and anything else your dog enjoys to reward good behavior, and also to shape new behaviors. Training in this manner is fun for both the handler and the dog, and is also incredibly effective. Old dogs, young dogs, giant dogs, toy dogs, and even puppies that are only a few weeks old can be trained. While it is best to start off early training your dog, an old dog CAN and SHOULD learn new tricks. It's never too late to start working with your dog.Private lessons in your home or on the road. I also teach group Flextime obedience classes at All Dog Play Skool. For more information, visit www.yellowbrickdogs.com and for a class schedule: www.adpsrichmond.com.

Training Method: I believe in teaching the dog what to do, not what not to do. Positive punishment doesn't teach anything other than avoidance and to be scared of the handler. I use clicker training to teach dogs new behaviors (with luring, capturing, and shaping) as well as reinforce existing behaviors. So-called "bad" behaviors can be extinguished through management, consistency, teaching alternative behaviors, and when the dog has reliably learned what I want them to do, negative punishment in the form of removing the opportunity to earn a reward (leaving the room, turning away, etc.).
