Information about all aspects of dog training

Yorkie Training

Yorkie training doesn't have to be difficult when you start early and start properly. Yorkies tend to be more difficult to train than larger dogs mostly due to size and food limitations. When you train a larger dog you can use pretty much any treat, since Yorkies don't eat much food you have less to work with. Here are some Yorkie training tips for teaching new behaviors.

Try starting by using their regular dog food to work with them. Each day you can get two training sessions in just by using their food. If they are picky about their food look for a high quality dog food without corn. Practice behaviors like sit before you pet them, talk to them, let them outside, etc. This will encourage them to sit for everything. Many owners dont mind if their Yorkie jumps on them or people since they are so small. If you do mind remember to start from an early age.

Yorkie Puppy Training

Yorkie puppy training can be more difficult for teaching behaviors simply because of their size, but that doesn't mean they can't learn. House training is a common problem for Yorkie pupppies. Begin by teaching them to ring a bell to go potty and also put them on a very strict potty schedule. Keep a log of their Yorkie puppy training sessions so that you can remember what you worked on and how well it went.

Socialization is very important since smaller dogs tend to be more nervous. Try not to hold them all the time, its important to treat Yorkies just like a regular dog.

No matter what breed you are training, there are two strong rules I follow. First, make them say please for everything by sitting before you give them what they want. Second, if you dont want it to become a habit, stop the behavior early.
