What a great tip!! Volunteering at a shelter is not only a great thing to do, but it will also get you known by the people who will be in a great position to give you referrals.

Another good way to start and get some word of mouth going is to volunteer at your local dog shelter. Work with the dogs to give them obedience basics and a little socializing to prepare them for adoption. Word of mouth is crucial in any business, and the people who volunteer at your shelter probably have a lot of contacts in the dog world. A referral from someone from a shelter will carry a lot of weight because they are not trying to make money. Their number one concern is the welfare of the dogs. You would not only be doing a great thing, you will be taking a huge step toward getting your name known by the people who can really help you. The dog people in your community. A dog trainer in my community has just started volunteering to help shelter dogs, and I have no doubt that this will be better for his business than paying for advertising. Good luck you you!! Do you use a clicker? I signed up for private obedience classes for one of my dogs with a trainer who used a clicker. I loved the results.
